High School Senior Scholarship Opportunity!

Get Some GREEN for Your Environmental Dream

Do you know a high school senior or a college student who is pursuing an education relating to the environment? Well, that student could be in luck: Metro Waste Authority is offering an Environmental Stewardship Scholarship!

Environmental protection is at the core of our organization and it drives our daily operations, as well as the services we offer. For example, landfills are scientifically engineered to protect air quality and groundwater. But, at Metro Waste Authority, we go beyond meeting those minimum environmental requirements to create smart, safe and sustainable solutions.

We practice what we preach and encourage others to dream big and do the same. This is why we have established two $1,000 scholarships available to students who meet the requirements.

The Environmental Stewardship Scholarship application process opens January 30 and closes February 24. Recipients will be notified March 6 via email. For more details and to apply for the scholarship, visit our website. Questions? Email Jenny Koska at jko@mwatoday.com.

Winter Weather Resident & Business Responsibilities!

This winter be sure that you are aware what your responsibilities are as a resident or business owner regarding snowfall and ice accumulations. The City of Polk City has a convenient checklist to make sure you are always compliant with Polk City’s weather codes.

The checklist reminds residents and business owners that when snowfall accumulates to 1 inch or greater, or during any ice storm, it is your responsibility to:

  • Ensure all vehicles are moved off of any roadway
  • Remove any obstructions from the right-of-way

Within 24 hours after the end of 1 inch or greater snowfall, or any ice storm, ensure that you have:

  • Cleared sidewalks of snow and ice
  • Cluster mailbox is clear of snow and ice
  • Recommended: Fire hydrant has a 3 foot perimeter & road access clear of snow to help reduce the Fire Department’s response time.

Please download or print out the full PDF checklist for more detailed information, reminders, and pertinent winter weather city codes.
