  • Civilian Conservation Corps: 6:30-7:30 pmThe Civilian Conservation Corps was a federal program to assist young men in supporting their families. It worked primarily on renewing natural resources. Most people know about the state park work, but in Iowa, over 75% of the work projects dealt with soil erosion, drought and flood prevention and planting trees. There was soil erosion work done in the Polk City area. Linda McCann has spoke with 19 men who worked in the CCC and shares their memories. She continues to research the CCC and would love to hear from men, or families who had men, in the CCC.

Mosquito Spraying Notice: The Polk City Public Works Department will begin spraying for mosquitoes twice a week, weather permitting, until the mosquito season comes to an end. In order for a successful application to be applied, the wind speed must be less than 10 mph and there can be no threat of rain two hours after the application. Polk City United Methodist Church Free Medical Clinic  6:00 pm – 8:00 pm first and third Wednesday each month Clinic staffed by volunteer healthcare providers. No insurance filed, $5 donation appreciated. Come in for sports physicals, school physicals, immunizations, or ill visits. PLEASE NOTE NO CLINIC June 6, 2018, and July 4, 2018

Polk City Historical Society: The Big Creek Historical Society announced the opening dates of the museum for 2018.

In addition the museum will open monthly during the Polk CITY Farmer’s Market. Those dates are:
